The Issue

Around the world, millions of people are denied the access to safe drinking water. Every day, 5000 people die from diseases contracted by drinking dirty water, such as hepatitis A and E, cholera and typhoid. Diarrhoea is a leading cause of child mortality and malnutrition and is also a symptom of HIV/AIDS. These waterborne diseases are exposed to people through contaminated water, which is the only water available to some people, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Our Mission

Our Destination Imagination group, Victorious Secret, is campaigning to reduce the inequality in the world by giving this system to people who need it the most.  Victorious Secret will be travelling to nearby elementary schools so that more people are aware of the issues at hand.  Their dream is to   expand their thought process to be that of a global community, rather than solely the small fraction of the world they know as home. Potable water is not a privilege; it’s a right. Everyone deserves access to clean  water.

How the LifeStraw Can Help

LifeStraw systems are water filters that give people a chance to drink clean water, removing 99.99% of germs and bacteria.  A person can drink dirty, contaminated water right through this straw and after going through the filter built into the straw, they will be drinking clean and purified water.  This helps rid the chances of contracting any diarrhoeal diseases.
